This is technically a “seconds” luna moth, as the antenna has a slight tear. As long as it is not pulled on, it will be fine, but that’s why it can’t be a bolo. It is still hand painted with care and love, and would look magical and nearly life sized on your fridge.
Description circa 2020:
The Luna Moth is the darling of the moth collection (don’t tell the others). I learned a good deal about these creatures while studying to recreate them. Did you know that their adult form does not have a digestive system!? It lives for only 7-10 days in which it tracks down a mate. So I’m even happier to be immortalizing them into functional art for your wardrobe or walls.
These are modeled after the male Luna moths, their bright green wings feature a shock of magenta along the tops and into the little eyespots. The beautiful trailing wings are thought to confuse predator’s echolocation and they really make the bolos pop.
The moths are made of Cosclay, a very sturdy and forever flexible material. So the wings flap and it’s very satisfying and all the more realistic! The sculptures are each lovingly hand-painted with acrylics and each design will naturally vary slightly. The antenna are reinforced with metal inside, and the whole thing is lacquered so it can stand up to the action of being on your fridge!
